Hey there! I’m Karan Chhatriya from Lucknow
A part of my life
Hello Audience, my name is Karan Chhatriya and I live in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. In this blog, I’ll tell you about a part of my life which I never expressed to anyone and you can say I never got a chance. In life, everyone faces a time when they need a ray of hope to endure their problems. Now I have reached 24 years of my life and gone through many rough times. My father’s name is Mr Krishna Kumar Chhatriya and my mother’s name is Mrs Meena Chhatriya, I have one younger sister and a young brother both are very creative and talented. They both are just opposite to their nature, one is Shy (sister) and another one (brother) is bold but they can never forget those traumatic days of my life. I am blessed to live in a joint family which holds 30 members in a house. We all cook, tease, love, argue, care for each other and stay strong right beside everyone whenever a problem arises. My sole aim was to join the Indian Army to serve the country and make things better for my family, but I never get the chance to achieve my dream because I got infected by a life-threatening disease.
BACK IN 2012,
I get good marks in my High School Exams with distinction in every subject and I was filled with enthusiasm. I went to S.K.D Academy for my intermediate studies and I was studying hard to achieve good marks in 1st year of senior secondary. Honestly saying when I gave my 1st unit test, it hit me so hard that I got worried about whether to take PCM, PCB, or COMMERCE. I know it’s quite funny but surprises happen sometimes. After I worked hard to build a reputation in school, teachers started to recognise me. Then I passed the annual exam and entered my last year. Everything was very normal till I entered the last year. I remember that day 19th July, when all the chaos was going to start, right after finishing the answer sheet of my 1st unit test my eyes where got heavy. I was having nausea, irritation from sound and even losing my vision. Somehow I gathered my courage to control my consciousness and managed to walk into the alley. My headache was increased and reached its peak right after I reached my home. I never felt this much pain in my whole life, it was like someone was drilling inside my head continuously. Then I went to the nearest clinic but the medication didn’t work So I went to the specialist and they gave me a strong injection after which I couldn’t walk in that evening, my friend came to see me but my eyes were so heavy because of that injection I couldn’t even look at them for 3 seconds. Medicines worked well enough to let me do everything normally but in one month my skin colour was getting white and it seems very funny in the beginning because everyone was questioning about my skincare products until my grandmother noticed it and discussed it with everyone regarding my blood counts. Everyone then suggests I should take a blood test and one day results came out at that time I was regularly driving a bike. Everyone was shocked because I was driving a bike of 140kg with a 3 grams per deciliter haemoglobin and the normal person’s haemoglobin is 13.5 to 15.7 grams per delimiter. After knowing all the facts, I took medical assistance and visit a specialist then they prescribed me many tests from RML Pathology. In conclusion, I got to know that there is a serious blood problem in my body. Transfusion of blood is not necessary until your body needs it, that’s why I spent 4-5 weeks with normal medication and a regular injection of immunity booster. At that time, my grandfather(Nana) was also suffering from severe diabetes and on 25 July 2013, he died right after getting discharged. I was upset because all the flashbacks of memories with him were appearing in front of me. After 2 days, In the evening I got angry with my grandmother(Nani) for some reasons and I cried a lot remembering about my Nana. The next day I was very sick and started to lose my consciousness then I got admitted. It was my first day in the hospital and I remember watching 4 interns grabbing my hand with needles to fund my veins. They find a vein after a little struggle but till that time my hand was swollen because they were pricking needles in all over my hands. A couple of glucose and 1 unit blood transfusion was given to me for stabilizing my condition then I was referred to S.G.P.G.I. In the emergency room, Doctors were confused at first because it was a little weird case and they were unable to find what was causing the blood loss. In S.G.P.G.I, I spent 4 days and got 3 unit blood transfusion but the saddest part was I had to see other patients dying every day right next to my bed in those 4 days. One day a lady next to my Maa asked her that “am I her brother”, we both laughed and told her the truth. At last, I got discharged and a final consultation session was taken in which the doctor told my parents that I am having Aplastic Anemia which is a life-threatening disease and the survival rate is very low. Aplastic Anemia is a disease that prevents cell formation in the bone marrow of your body. My parents were trying to hide all these things because they thought it could intimidate me but I told them that I’m mature enough to understand the situation, So they don’t need to hide anything from me. Doctors also told us that there are only two alternative solutions- one was bone marrow transplant which could cost us more than 16 Lakhs with a 2% success rate and even if it gets successful there is no guarantee that I can be cured for a lifetime. The second alternative was to take a long period of medication to let my body heal itself although there is no statistical proof of its success. One of a neighbour from our colony suggested we should visit Archana Kumar in Medical College (K.G.M.U) from where her child was getting treatment for the same disease, So we quickly ran to the Hospital and I got admitted to a trauma centre for few days for observation. I felt blessed when I got shifted to the paediatrics ward just because I wasn’t turned 18 and also Dr Achana wanted my case, So she didn’t allow anyone to shift me to Gandhi ward(which was for adults and very untidy). I was touched after seeing her gesture towards me. She steps forward to help me in every way in no time. From the beginning of this tragic incident, everyone supported me like a set of walls, that’s the only reason why I never cried and faced every problem with a simple in those 5 months because I know it was very hard for my family and friends to saw me like that. Those 5 months was a challenge for me and my family to get my life back. I hope you guys wish to know more about what happened in those few months which felt like a year to me. It may bring tears to your eyes after hearing everything, so stay connected I’ll write the further part of my story soon in my next blog.
Thank you for your time.
